Restaurant fire in Limassol and residential blaze in Amargeti
On the morning of October 1, 2026, a fire broke out at a restaurant located on the ground floor of a five-storey building on Paphos Street in Limassol. The Fire Service responded to the call at 09:27 with four fire engines and a hydraulic telescopic platform. The blaze, which was caused by the ignition of accumulated grease inside the chimneys, produced thick black smoke and required about two hours to bring under control, with the operation successfully concluding at 11:30. An employee present at the time for preparation managed to evacuate the premises safely, and no injuries were reported.
The fire caused extensive damage to the restaurant's chimneys, damaged rooftop equipment, external installations, wall paintwork, and electrical wiring. This incident was one of 41 calls the Fire Service responded to between October 1 and 2. In a separate incident on October 3, a prefabricated residential building in the village of Amargeti, Paphos district, was completely destroyed by a fire. Preliminary investigations indicate that the blaze was likely caused by an electrical appliance left in operation. Authorities are investigating the causes of the Amargeti fire, while no injuries were reported in either event.
