Greek tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, ranked 44th in the world, successfully advanced to the round of 16 at the ATP 500 Japan Open tournament in Tokyo. In his opening match on October 1, 2026, the 28-year-old staged a comeback to defeat his Argentine opponent, Tomas Martin Etcheverry (ranked 30th), after dropping the first set. The match concluded with a score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, lasting two hours and ten minutes.
Tsitsipas had previously secured his spot in the main draw by winning two matches in the qualifying rounds. In the upcoming stage of the competition, scheduled for Friday, the Greek athlete will face Valentin Vacherot from Monaco, who is the tournament's 8th seed, in a battle for a place in the quarterfinals.
