Limassol unveils metropolitan master plan and hosts sustainable mobility workshop
On September 20, 2026, a collaborative presentation was held on Gladstonos Street, outlining a new master plan for the greater Limassol area. Developed by three local municipalities in partnership with the University of Cyprus and Frederick University, the project aims to create a unified framework for urban planning, land use, and public transport that transcends current administrative boundaries. The initiative focuses on enhancing accessibility, safety, and sustainable urban living for the metropolitan area.
Following this presentation, the city hosted the “Learning from Limassol” event on September 21-22, 2026, as part of the European PolicyMix4Mobility project. This initiative coincided with European Mobility Week and gathered international researchers and urban planning professionals. Participants engaged in on-site field studies, including cycling routes along the coastline, to evaluate current infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists. The findings from these field observations were processed during a co-creation workshop, which produced proposals for future urban interventions aimed at reducing reliance on private vehicles. Interested parties can access the full project proposals and vision documentation on the Limassol Municipality website.
