European Commission disburses €120 million to Cyprus under recovery plan
On October 1, 2026, the European Commission disbursed nearly €120 million to Cyprus as part of the Recovery and Resilience Facility, a component of the NextGenerationEU program. This payment is part of a larger €9.8 billion distribution to several European nations, including Poland, Sweden, Belgium, and Estonia. The disbursement follows the successful completion of milestones associated with Cyprus's sixth funding request, which was initially submitted on December 17, 2025, and received formal Commission approval on July 13, 2026.
The funding is tied to structural reforms including the implementation of a new school evaluation system, a cross-border healthcare data exchange mechanism, and flexible working arrangements in the public sector. Additionally, resources were allocated to digitize building permit processes and expand renewable energy infrastructure at the University of Cyprus. With this sixth payment, Cyprus has now secured approximately 67 percent of the total €1.02 billion allocated under its national recovery and resilience plan. The measures are designed to enhance administrative efficiency, promote digital transformation, and accelerate the transition toward green energy.
