Cyprus agricultural policy updates and future investment support
Minister of Agriculture Christos Senekis recently highlighted significant interest in the primary sector, noting that over 1,200 applications have been submitted for investment measures, totaling approximately 200 million euros. Among these, 267 applications came from young farmers seeking initial establishment. These efforts are supported by the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Strategic Plan 2023–2027, which boasts a total budget of 454 million euros aimed at modernizing farms, boosting producer incomes, and fostering rural development. The Minister also emphasized the commercial success of halloumi as a PDO product in international markets.
Looking ahead, the Ministry is establishing a new financial tool to facilitate easier access to credit for sustainable investments. Furthermore, a wide-ranging consultation process with the agricultural community is scheduled to begin on October 8, 2026, to shape the CAP period beyond 2027. This initiative will specifically include women in rural areas to harness their expertise and promote entrepreneurship, which the Ministry considers essential for the longevity and productivity of rural regions.
