Tsirio Stadium awaits licensing decision following facility upgrades
The Gymnastic Association Olympia (GSO) has announced the completion of extensive maintenance and upgrade works at Limassol's historic Tsirio Stadium. Carried out between July and September 2026, the project involved an investment of over €120,000. Key improvements include upgrades to the closed-circuit television systems, spectator stands, locker rooms, playing surface, lighting, and security infrastructure to ensure compliance with modern standards for hosting A' Division football matches.
While the GSO and spokesperson Giorgos Zachariadis expressed optimism for a swift reopening to accommodate clubs such as Karmiotissa and Krasava, the licensing process has encountered delays. The Stadium Licensing Authority, which had conducted on-site inspections, failed to hold its scheduled session on October 2, 2026.
Consequently, the final decision regarding the stadium's operational status has been postponed until Monday, October 5, 2026. The Authority is expected to review all gathered data and site inspection reports by midday on that date to determine if the venue meets all requirements for hosting professional football games.
