Electric car crashes into Kuan Yin Shrine in Bangkok
On Thursday, October 1, 2026, an electric vehicle crashed into the historic Kuan Yin Shrine, located within the Thian Fah Foundation grounds in Bangkok’s Chinatown. The incident occurred at approximately 1:00 p.m. local time on Yaowarat Road in the Samphanthawong district. Three people were injured during the collision, with reports indicating that rescuers were required to extricate victims trapped beneath the vehicle. Two of the injured individuals are currently hospitalized in serious condition.
Preliminary investigations by local authorities suggest the elderly driver lost consciousness while behind the wheel, causing him to accidentally press the accelerator. This resulted in the car veering off the road and plowing into the 68-year-old site of worship where people were gathered for prayers. The collision caused extensive damage to the temple's religious artifacts and equipment. Authorities are currently managing the aftermath of the crash and overseeing the recovery of the injured parties.
