Cyprus unemployment rate rises to 4.1 percent in August 2026
Cyprus experienced a slight increase in its unemployment rate, reaching 4.1 percent in August 2026, according to the latest data from Eurostat. This figure represents an upward trend from 4.0 percent in July, 3.9 percent in June, and 3.8 percent in May. The total number of unemployed individuals in the country is estimated at 22,000, compared to 21,000 in the previous month and 22,000 recorded in August 2025.
Regarding demographic breakdowns, the unemployment rate for men remained steady at 3.7 percent, while female unemployment rose to 4.5 percent in August from 4.3 percent in July. Youth unemployment for those under 25 was recorded at 11.9 percent in June. Despite the recent monthly increases, the current 4.1 percent rate remains lower than the 4.2 percent recorded in August 2025. By comparison, the broader European Union unemployment rate remained stable at 6.1 percent, while the euro area rate stood at 6.4 percent, both significantly higher than the domestic figures reported for Cyprus.
