EU Health Ministers discuss innovation and patient access in Dublin
The Informal Meeting of European Union Health Ministers took place in Dublin from September 30 to October 1, 2026, under the Irish Presidency of the Council of the EU. The Cypriot Minister of Health, Neophytos Charalambidis, participated in the proceedings alongside his counterparts from the 27 member states to address pressing challenges in the healthcare sector.
The discussions focused on enhancing innovation in Life Sciences, mitigating the impact of chronic diseases, and addressing the challenges posed by an aging population. Key priorities included improving equitable access to medicines, the implementation of the European Health Data Space, and the strengthening of pharmaceutical supply chain resilience. Additionally, participants examined strategies for disease prevention and early diagnosis within the framework of the EU Safe Hearts Plan.
During his intervention, Minister Charalambidis emphasized the necessity of ensuring timely and equal access to high-quality healthcare services and innovative treatments for all patients. The summit concluded with a commitment to better integrate cross-border health initiatives to foster a more resilient and responsive European health system.
