DISY official Petros Papadopoulos endorses Annita Demetriou for president
On October 2, 2026, Petros Papadopoulos, Commissioner for Human Rights Policy at the Democratic Rally (DISY), issued an open letter to the party’s Political Bureau ahead of its emergency session. In his communication, Papadopoulos explicitly expressed his support for Annita Demetriou as the party's candidate for the upcoming presidential elections.
Beyond his endorsement, Papadopoulos urged the party leadership to strictly adhere to the DISY statute and immediately initiate the formal process for selecting a presidential nominee. He emphasized that the selection process must be transparent, institutional, and democratic, allowing party members to express their will through internal elections. He specifically called for the Political Bureau to adopt the Executive Bureau's recommendation to launch these procedures without delay.
At 28 years old, Papadopoulos, an ex officio member of the Political Bureau, noted that this was his first session. He stated that he refused to remain diplomatic, choosing instead to address the urgency of the party's internal political culture. The session aims to finalize the path forward regarding the party's candidate selection, as the leadership navigates internal demands for institutional clarity and organizational structure.
