Manchester City appeals findings of financial misconduct
Manchester City is set to file an appeal against an independent commission's ruling that the club breached Premier League financial regulations. The commission found that between 2009/10 and 2017/18, the club utilized fictitious commercial contracts and misrepresented financial data to obscure expenditures totaling over £900 million. While the club maintains its innocence and intends to challenge the findings, the case has now reached the British Parliament, drawing scrutiny from politicians concerned about the overall integrity of the Premier League.
The Football Association (FA) has officially acknowledged the ruling, noting that the situation has significant implications for the game's integrity and stating that it is reviewing the decision for potential further disciplinary actions. Under new Premier League fast-track rules, the appeal must be heard within 12 weeks of filing, with a final decision expected 30 days after the hearings conclude. The club reportedly plans to argue that some sponsorships were funded by the Abu Dhabi government rather than its ownership group, asserting that they possess irrefutable evidence to clear their name.
