Wizz Air launches new direct flight route between Larnaca and Madrid
On September 24, 2026, the Hungarian airline Wizz Air officially inaugurated a new direct air route connecting Larnaca International Airport with Madrid-Barajas Airport. This expansion serves as the airline's second direct connection to Spain, following the successful launch of the Larnaca-Barcelona route one year prior.
According to Andras Szabo, Wizz Air's Network Director, this service is designed to enhance connectivity between Cyprus and the Iberian Peninsula. The new route aims to provide passengers in Cyprus with direct, affordable access to the Spanish capital while simultaneously promoting Cyprus as a year-round travel destination for Spanish tourists. The airline views this development as a significant step in strengthening its broader network and accessibility.
Looking ahead, Wizz Air continues to evaluate potential new destinations from Cyprus as part of its strategic growth. The airline remains optimistic regarding the route's performance, citing the positive trajectory of its existing Spanish services as a foundation for future operations.
