Nicosia Criminal Court to proceed with citizenship trial on October 19
The Nicosia Permanent Criminal Court is set to commence the hearing process regarding the citizenship case on October 19, following the resolution of procedural issues related to three new charges. The defense had previously requested further clarifications from the prosecution to ensure the accused understood the specific allegations against them.
During the recent proceedings, defense attorney Ilias Stefanou confirmed that the requested clarifications were provided via email by the prosecution. While the defense now considers the three charges understandable, Stefanou expressed reservations regarding general references within the indictment. He stated that if the prosecution attempts to expand the scope of these charges during the trial, the defense will raise concerns regarding the fairness of the proceedings. Representing the prosecution, Charis Karaolidou noted that the clarifications provided have effectively cleared the path for the trial to proceed as scheduled.
