Cyprus retail trade records significant growth in August 2026
In August 2026, the retail trade sector in Cyprus, excluding motor vehicles, experienced strong growth compared to the same period in 2025. According to the Statistical Service, the value index of turnover rose by 9.3%, while the volume index increased by 7.0%. For the first eight months of 2026, the value index grew by 8.1% and the volume index by 6.4% year-on-year.
The growth was broad-based across several categories. The information and communication equipment sector led the performance with a 15.9% increase in value and a 24.8% surge in volume. Clothing and footwear also saw significant gains, rising 8.9% in value and 16.7% in volume. Other household equipment, including furniture, appliances, and construction materials, grew 10.2% in value and 12% in volume. Additionally, recreational and educational goods posted increases of 9.7% in value and 12.7% in volume.
While fuel saw an increase in the total value of sales, sources note this occurred despite a decrease in the quantities sold. These figures reflect a robust consumer market during the peak summer period, maintaining a positive growth trend observed throughout the initial eight months of the year.
