Grain producers association donates 20 tonnes of supplies to the church
On Friday, October 2, 2026, the Pan-Cyprian Grain Growers' Association delivered 20 tonnes of food supplies to the Archbishopric in Nicosia. The donation consists of 10 tonnes of bulgur and 10 tonnes of flour, intended to be distributed by local bishoprics to families in need across the region.
Association Chairman Kyriacos Kailas stated that this annual social contribution is funded directly by the member farmers. While the organization initially distributed aid directly to large families, it has channeled the assistance through the Church for the past eight years to ensure the supplies reach those most in need. The donation volume was increased from 15 to 20 tonnes several years ago as a response to the economic challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic and prolonged drought conditions.
Kailas emphasized that the organization is committed to maintaining these quantities in the future, noting that the farmers wish to continue supporting their fellow citizens regardless of the annual harvest quality. The Church remains the primary intermediary for the distribution of these goods, leveraging its local network to identify and support vulnerable households.
