Defendants testify in the investigation of Giorgos Mazonakis's death
Ioanna Gaka and Ilias Theodoropoulos, the two defendants in the case concerning the death of Giorgos Mazonakis, provided testimonies to the investigator regarding their actions during the medical emergency at a clinic on Karneadou Street. The defendants claim they followed all necessary medical protocols and maintain that their actions would have been identical had the incident occurred within a hospital facility.
In her testimony, Gaka stated that she provided immediate assistance to Mazonakis by applying an oxygen mask, preparing adrenaline, and performing CPR before contacting the National Center for Emergency Care (EKAB) approximately five minutes later. Regarding the use of a defibrillator, Gaka claimed the device showed asystole, a reading she alleges was consistent with subsequent readings from EKAB and the Elpis Hospital equipment. She also described being asked to leave the ambulance during transport due to space limitations.
The case is currently subject to an ongoing investigation as authorities evaluate the medical procedures applied by the defendants. Public concern remains high, and the legal proceedings are expected to continue as the investigation develops further.
