Unstable weather conditions to affect Cyprus through Tuesday
Cyprus is currently being affected by an unstable air mass that is expected to persist until Tuesday, October 6, 2026. The weather, which shifted on October 3, has brought significant rainfall and thunderstorms, particularly to the Paphos district, including areas such as Polis Chrysochous, Pyrgos Tyllirias, and the Akamas Peninsula. These rains have been welcomed by authorities as a positive development for water reservoirs and agricultural needs following a challenging year for water supplies.
Meteorological Officer Panagiotis Lingis confirmed that while isolated, strong thunderstorms are expected to spread across mountainous regions, the interior, and northern parts of the island, there is no threat of extreme weather phenomena similar to those currently impacting Crete. Temperatures are forecast to peak at approximately 27°C in inland and coastal areas, while dropping to 15°C in the higher mountains. Winds are expected to remain light to moderate, between 3 to 4 Beaufort. Authorities advise the public to monitor official updates, as local rain and hail may occur, though the intensity of the weather is expected to be more localized in the southern parts of the island.
