Conservation projects for cultural heritage sites completed in Cyprus
On October 3, 2026, Sotos Ktoris, co-chair of the Technical Committee on Cultural Heritage, announced the completion of restoration works at the mosque in Koilani, Limassol district, and the Church of Ayia Paraskevi in Palaiosofos, Kyrenia district. The mosque is recognized as one of the oldest in the Limassol region.
The conservation projects were funded by the European Union and implemented under the technical supervision of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). These efforts are part of a broader initiative aimed at bridging Cyprus’ past with its future while fostering trust among different communities on the island.
In addition to the completed projects, Ktoris announced the commencement of new conservation works at the Church of Ayia Irene in the Kyrenia district. The committee continues its mission to preserve diverse historical sites across the island, serving as a framework for cooperation and cultural preservation.
