California court upholds 90 million dollar judgment against Alkis David
The California Court of Appeal has upheld a judgment requiring Cypriot-born businessman Alkis David to pay 90 million dollars in damages to a former employee. The lawsuit, filed by a woman identified as Jane Doe, involves allegations of sexual abuse, rape, and workplace harassment occurring between February 2016 and April 2019 at David’s companies, including FilmOn TV and Hologram USA, Inc.
The case was originally heard in the Los Angeles County Superior Court under Judge Christopher Lui. On June 17, 2024, a jury had reached a unanimous verdict initially awarding the plaintiff 900 million dollars—comprised of 100 million dollars in compensatory damages and 800 million dollars in punitive damages for intentional infliction of emotional distress and sexual misconduct. The appellate court's recent ruling finalizes the adjustment of this payout to 90 million dollars, concluding this phase of the legal proceedings regarding the workplace abuse claims.
