Cyprus tourism sector strategy for 2027
Cypriot tourism authorities and professionals are focusing on the 2027 season, aiming to extend the tourism period beyond the traditional summer months. Following a difficult year, stakeholders are prioritizing the recovery of the sector and the attraction of high-income visitors. Key to this strategy is the further development of specialized tourism forms, which officials believe will help stabilize the industry after significant challenges were faced earlier in 2026.
A critical moment in this recovery effort will be the London tourism exhibition in early November, where representatives led by Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis plan to secure flight capacity and tourist packages for the upcoming year. Authorities are also emphasizing regional cooperation, particularly in the Famagusta district, which accounts for 42% of Cyprus's tourist beds. Since the summer of 2024, the municipalities of Ayia Napa and Protaras have ceased their competitive stance, opting instead to unify their efforts to attract visitors throughout the year.
Despite high interest, the district has historically struggled to retain visitors during the winter, with only 20% of total arrivals in the record-breaking month of October 2025 ending up in the Famagusta region. Officials remain committed to diversifying the tourist product to overcome these seasonal limitations and ensure long-term economic benefits for the nation.
