Police conduct nationwide enforcement operations leading to multiple arrests
During coordinated overnight police operations across Cyprus aimed at maintaining public order and preventing crime, law enforcement arrested 12 individuals on October 4 and an additional 19 individuals on October 5 for various offenses, including illegal residency, drug possession, and drink-driving. Throughout these enforcement actions, officers stopped over 1,200 vehicles in total and performed hundreds of inspections on premises to address delinquency.
Significant traffic enforcement was a major component of the operations, resulting in over 600 total reports for traffic violations, including 222 citations for speeding. Specific high-profile cases involved two drivers in Larnaca and Nicosia who were caught with blood alcohol levels of 131mcg and 79mcg, significantly exceeding the 22mcg legal limit. Both men, along with a 21-year-old who refused an alcohol test, were served with court documents for immediate legal proceedings at district courts. Separately, police in the Paphos district reported 13 additional arrests and 195 traffic citations during a weekend crackdown. Authorities stated that these preventive patrols and targeted checks, which also led to the impoundment of numerous vehicles, will continue daily to ensure public safety.
