Three suspects arrested in Limassol following unexploded bomb incident
On September 30, 2026, at approximately 2:30 a.m., authorities in the Mesa Geitonia area of Limassol discovered a high-powered improvised explosive device at the entrance of a telecommunications company office. The device failed to detonate, and police were alerted after a suspect riding a high-capacity motorcycle without license plates fled the scene. A pursuit by law enforcement officers proved unsuccessful at the time.
Following intensive investigations, police identified and arrested three individuals aged 28, 22, and 20. Authorities conducted a coordinated operation at the suspects' residences, collecting evidence that led to their appearance before the Limassol District Court. On October 4, the court ordered an eight-day detention for all three suspects to facilitate the ongoing investigation. The suspects' lawyers contested the detention order during the proceedings.
Police are currently exploring potential links between the incident and sports-related rivalries. Reports suggest the motive may be connected to an ongoing investigation into allegations of match-fixing involving AEL and APOEL football clubs. The Limassol Criminal Investigation Department continues to examine evidence, including the motorcycle allegedly used during the attack, which was later located in Lofou.
