Three earthquakes strike southern Turkey
Three consecutive earthquakes hit the provinces of Adana and Osmaniye in southern Turkey on October 4, 2026. According to the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), the first tremor occurred at 14:19 in the Saimbeyli district of Adana with a magnitude of 4.8 and a depth of 7.99 kilometers. A second quake of 4.9 magnitude followed at 14:36 in the same province at a depth of 8.67 kilometers, while a third earthquake of 5.2 magnitude struck the Subasi area of Osmaniye at 14:43.
Authorities report no immediate casualties or structural damage, though the series of tremors caused significant concern among the local population. The affected region remains sensitive as it was devastated by the major earthquakes on February 6, 2023, which resulted in over 53,000 deaths and widespread infrastructure destruction across 13 provinces. AFAD officials and emergency response teams have conducted field assessments to confirm the safety of the area and continue to monitor seismic activity for any further developments.
