Turkey and France sign a new defense cooperation roadmap
Turkey and France have officially signed a 'Defense Cooperation Roadmap' aimed at strengthening their bilateral military and defense industrial ties. This agreement, announced by the Turkish Ministry of Defense in early October 2026, serves as the culmination of high-level diplomatic and military consultations between Ankara and Paris.
The negotiations involved a significant French delegation, including Alice Rufo, Deputy Minister to the Minister of the Armed Forces and Veterans, General Vincent Giraud, Military Chief of Staff to the French President, and Guillaume Ollagnier, Director General of International Relations and Strategy. During these discussions, representatives evaluated the current state of bilateral defense relations and explored specific initiatives to deepen strategic dialogue and industrial cooperation.
This development marks a formal effort to institutionalize military relations between the two nations. While the primary focus remains on the implementation of the signed roadmap, the talks are part of a broader, ongoing series of scheduled military cooperation activities intended to align the strategic objectives of both countries in the defense sector.
