Public dispute erupts between Anna Vissi and Nikos Karvelas following OAKA concert
A prominent Greek musical partnership between singer Anna Vissi and composer Nikos Karvelas has deteriorated into a public dispute following Vissi’s major concert at the OAKA stadium on September 26, 2026. The conflict escalated after Karvelas was absent from the event, leading to public statements regarding artistic disagreements and a significant financial dispute. Karvelas has publicly expressed dissatisfaction with Vissi's current artistic direction, while Vissi responded with a strong statement accusing him of hypocrisy and attempted financial extortion.
The situation is marked by contradictory financial claims: Vissi’s legal representative, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, stated that the production company had already paid approximately 300,000 euros for royalty rights. Conversely, Vissi has alleged that Karvelas demanded 1.5 million euros shortly before the concert, allegedly threatening to cause her personal and professional damage. The professional relationship, which has spanned decades and includes numerous collaborations, is now in jeopardy.
Legal proceedings are currently pending as communication between the two parties has ceased. The possibility remains that Karvelas, as the creator of much of Vissi's repertoire, could seek to legally prohibit her from performing his songs. Vissi’s team has confirmed that they are prepared to pursue the matter in court and have rejected any further attempts at an out-of-court settlement.
