Public fallout between Anna Vissi and Nikos Karvelas over financial and artistic disputes
A high-profile conflict has emerged between long-time musical partners Anna Vissi and composer Nikos Karvelas following Vissi’s recent concert at the Olympic Athletic Center of Athens (OAKA). The dispute, which became public around October 6, 2026, centers on conflicting claims regarding compensation and artistic direction. While initial reports suggested a disagreement over 200,000 to 300,000 euros, Vissi’s attorney, Michalis Dimitrakopoulos, stated that the production company had already paid 300,000 euros in copyright royalties prior to the concert.
The situation escalated on October 7, 2026, when Vissi issued a public statement accusing Karvelas of demanding 1.5 million euros and threatening to ruin her career if the payment was not made. Karvelas has expressed dissatisfaction with the production scale and the management of his work, leading to a significant breakdown in their professional and personal relationship. Previous tensions between the pair date back to 2007, when they also ceased collaboration for a period.
Currently, the situation is moving toward potential legal action. Vissi’s legal representation has been instructed to prepare for court proceedings, while acknowledging that as the songwriter, Karvelas possesses the legal right to prohibit Vissi from performing his compositions. Both sides maintain that there are no further outstanding financial obligations, yet the breach in their multi-decade partnership remains unresolved.
