AEK Athens resumes training ahead of league match against OFI
AEK Athens is finalizing preparations for the resumption of the league championship following an international break. On October 4, the team held a final closed-door training match against Panetolikos in Elliniko to test squad depth. Head coach Marko Nikolic was forced to manage the absence of 16 players due to international duties and various injuries. During this period, the coaching staff focused on providing playing time to fringe players and youth prospects from the U19 team.
Medical updates indicate positive progress for several key players. Lazaros Rota has increased his training intensity and is expected to be available for the upcoming match against OFI at Nea Filadelfeia. Goalkeeper Thomas Strakosha is also recovering, though his potential selection for the October 14 game against Shakhtar may depend on his involvement against OFI to regain match fitness. Barnabas Varga, who missed international duty with Hungary due to a knee issue, is also improving and is being prepared for the match against Manchester City on October 20. The return of the full roster is expected by the middle of the week as international players rejoin the squad in Spata.
