EuroLeague owners meet in Como to discuss future structure and NBA proposal
On October 5 and 6, 2026, the 13 shareholders of the EuroLeague are meeting in Como, Italy, to decide on the future trajectory of European basketball. Representatives from clubs including Olympiacos, Panathinaikos, Anadolu Efes, Fenerbahce, Barcelona, Real Madrid, Baskonia, Maccabi Tel Aviv, Olimpia Milano, ASVEL, Bayern Munich, Zalgiris Kaunas, and CSKA Moscow are present to discuss critical structural changes.
The agenda focuses on a major proposal from the NBA regarding the acquisition of a significant portion of the EuroLeague's shares to establish a European league under the NBA's aegis. Furthermore, stakeholders are expected to deliberate on expanding the competition, potentially increasing the number of participating teams to 24. While specific teams for expansion are under consideration, reports suggest that PAOK currently holds a strong position for inclusion over Aris due to advanced preparations.
Following these meetings, a formal vote is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6. The decisions made during this summit are expected to fundamentally alter the landscape of European professional basketball, determining whether the league will integrate closer with the American model or maintain its traditional structure, while also finalizing the path for new franchise additions.
