Police seize nitrous oxide canisters in Famagusta district
On the night of Sunday, October 4, 2026, members of the Famagusta Crime Prevention Unit (OPE) conducted a search of a premises in the Famagusta district under a judicial warrant. The operation targeted the illegal possession of nitrous oxide, commonly known as "laughing gas.
During the search, authorities discovered and confiscated 271 full canisters and 47 used nitrous oxide cartridges. Additionally, officers seized four metal dispensing canisters and a quantity of balloons used for the consumption of the substance. Following the discovery, the person responsible for the premises was summoned to the Ayia Napa Police Station to provide a statement and undergo standard legal processing.
The Ayia Napa Police Station is currently handling the investigation to determine further legal consequences. No arrests were explicitly confirmed in the initial reports, but the suspect remains under scrutiny as the case progresses.
