Konstantinos Antoniou wins the 37th Cycling Spartakiad
Cyclist Konstantinos Antoniou from APOEL secured first place in the 37th Cycling Spartakiad, repeating his 2023 victory. The event took place on Saturday, October 3, 2026, featuring approximately 300 participants. The race covered a challenging 257-kilometer route, starting at 07:30 from the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro) in Athens and ending in Sparta at the statue of Leonidas.
Antoniou, wearing race number 224, finished the course alongside Greek cyclist Nikos Kambouris of A.S.K. Alfa Kallitheas. Both athletes recorded an identical official time of 8 hours and 1 minute. According to race data, the pair broke away from the rest of the pack in the Achladokampos area and maintained their lead until the finish line. Beyond the competition, the event was marked by a personal gesture from Antoniou, who dedicated his efforts to a young boy named Orestis whom he met prior to the race.
The historic cycling institution is co-organized by the Cycling Association of Veteran Athletes (PEPA), the Spartiatikos Gymnastic Club, and the Municipality of Sparta, under the sanction of the Hellenic Cycling Federation. The APOEL cycling team highlighted the milestone, which included the participation of athlete Michalis Poumpouris, who completed his fifth appearance in the event.
