Panagrotikos association calls for government support amid rising production costs
On October 5, 2026, the Panagrotikos Association of Cyprus issued an urgent appeal to the government and the Ministry of Agriculture, calling for immediate financial intervention to address the rising costs of agricultural production. General Secretary Anastasis Giapanis highlighted that the sustained increase in prices for essential inputs, particularly fertilizers and plant protection products, has severely compromised the sustainability of farms and farmer incomes.
Giapanis emphasized that Cyprus faces a unique disadvantage due to its total dependency on imports for these inputs, as there is no domestic production capacity. These additional costs, combined with higher expenditures for energy, water, fuel, machinery, and labor, are placing significant pressure on the sector. The association warns that this economic strain threatens both the future of local agricultural businesses and the island's food security. Consequently, Panagrotikos is urging the government to implement targeted support measures to stabilize the market and ensure the continuity of domestic agricultural activities.
