U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to lead 6th U.S.-Greece Strategic Dialogue in Athens
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has concluded a two-day visit to Athens focusing on the U.S.-Greece strategic partnership, which includes discussions on F-35 fighter jet procurement, regional stability, and energy cooperation. Following these preliminary talks, Rubio is scheduled to return to Athens on Wednesday, October 7, to co-chair the 6th Round of the U.S.-Greece Strategic Dialogue alongside Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis.
The Strategic Dialogue is set to commence at 09:00 at the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by a press briefing at 09:30. The primary session will address international and regional geopolitical developments, with subsequent sessions covering defense, security, energy, shipping, technology, and investments. The agenda highlights the significance of Greece as a stable regional partner for the United States.
Several key agreements are expected to be formalized during the dialogue, including the renewal of a Memorandum of Understanding regarding import restrictions on archaeological and ethnological materials dating up to the 15th century A.D. Additionally, the parties plan to finalize cooperation frameworks concerning the Florida National Guard, maritime credential recognition, and the protection of cultural assets, further solidifying bilateral ties.
