Cyprus health organization updates oncology treatment protocols
The Health Insurance Organization (HIO) of Cyprus announced significant progress in revising therapeutic oncology protocols, a collaborative effort initiated in June 2025 with the Cyprus Oncology Society (OEK). The primary objective of this joint initiative is to expedite and facilitate patient access to modern and innovative cancer treatments.
Through coordinated efforts between the Advisory Committee on Medicines (SEF) and OEK subcommittees, authorities have completed the evaluation of 90 oncological treatments or therapeutic combinations. This review encompasses both newly introduced pharmaceutical products and existing medications for which new oncological indications have been established. Additionally, 17 specialized treatment protocols have been finalized or updated, covering various forms of cancer including breast, lung, prostate, colon, ovarian, endometrial, and cervical cancer. These changes represent a strategic effort to modernize clinical care and improve health outcomes for patients relying on the public healthcare system.
