Trimiklini community leader defends office lease for the Commissioner for Mountainous Communities
The community leader of Trimiklini, Andreas Orfanos, has defended the legal status and procedures surrounding the housing of the Office of the Commissioner for Mountainous Communities within a local community building. Responding to an open letter from the 'Agronomos' party, which questioned the lease terms and requested transparency, Orfanos stated that the community council unanimously approved the facility's provision on December 20, 2019, following a government request. The decision was formally approved by the Limassol District Officer on June 9, 2020, citing the building's strategic location and suitable infrastructure.
Addressing concerns regarding the lack of rental payments, Orfanos explained that the building was constructed in 1994 with 90% state funding. He emphasized that properties built with such state contributions are not rented out for commercial profit, as community councils do not engage in business activities. He further characterized the Commissioner’s presence as a significant benefit for the village, citing developmental gains such as the installation of an ATM. The 'Agronomos' party continues to demand full disclosure of all relevant documents to ensure transparency in the administrative process.
