Trimiklini community leader defends office provision for Commissioner for Mountain Communities
The community leader of Trimiklini, Andreas Orfanos, has formally defended the decision to house the Office of the Commissioner for the Development of Mountain Communities within a local community building. Responding to an open letter from the agricultural party "Agronomos," which questioned the legality and financial terms of the arrangement, Orfanos stated that the building was provided following a unanimous vote by the community council on December 20, 2019.
According to the official statement, the government requested the space, and the District Officer of Limassol provided formal approval for the transfer on June 9, 2020. Orfanos noted that the specific site was selected due to its strategic geographical location and appropriate infrastructure. Regarding inquiries about rent payments, the community leader indicated that buildings constructed with state contributions do not fall under standard private rental agreements, dismissing allegations of procedural impropriety.
The current dispute stems from concerns raised by the "Agronomos" party regarding the transparency and status of the community property. The community council maintains that all actions were taken in full compliance with legal requirements and government directives intended to bolster the development of rural and mountain regions.
