Criminal proceedings initiated against Dromolaxia-Meneou mayor
A criminal case has been filed against the mayor of Dromolaxia-Meneou, Kypros Andronikou, at the Larnaca District Court. The legal action was initiated by the Deputy Mayor, Giannos Ioannou, following a social media post made on September 21, 2026, on the municipality's official page.
The charge pertains to a public official allegedly committing a deceitful act intended to influence public opinion, in violation of Article 133 of the Criminal Code. According to the indictment filed by lawyer Alexandros Clerides on behalf of the complainant, the mayor allegedly presented the post as an official position of the municipality to deliberately damage the public and institutional reputation of the deputy mayor. If convicted, the offense carries a maximum penalty of two years imprisonment, a monetary fine, or both.
While these allegations are currently being brought before the judiciary to determine the mayor's guilt or innocence, the first court hearing for the case has been officially scheduled for November 13, 2026, at 8:30 AM.
