President Christodoulides attends the 2025 Cypriot Environmental Awards ceremony

On the evening of October 5, 2026, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides hosted the 8th annual Cypriot Environmental Awards ceremony at the Presidential Palace. The event honored organizations, businesses, and municipalities for their contributions to environmental sustainability, green cities, and community development.

During his address, President Christodoulides emphasized that addressing the climate crisis requires wise management of natural resources and strategic investments in prevention and resilience. He underscored the necessity for policies that prioritize sustainable development, ensuring that current progress does not compromise future generations. The President highlighted the multiplier effect of such initiatives, noting that successful practices should serve as new standards for the broader public and private sectors.

Among the award recipients was the Municipality of Geroskipou (Yeroskipou), which received two awards in the 'Green City of Cyprus' category. These distinctions were granted for the municipality’s efforts in managing water resources during periods of drought, specifically for its project utilizing recycled water from the Urban Wastewater Treatment Plant to maintain coastal green spaces and enhance urban biodiversity.
