Couple arrested in Nicosia for drug possession

On the evening of Monday, October 5, 2026, anti-drug squad (YKAN) officers in Nicosia arrested a 27-year-old man and his 23-year-old partner on charges of drug possession. The arrests followed the interception of the man's vehicle at approximately 7:00 PM, where authorities discovered approximately one kilogram of cannabis, cash, two mobile phones, and a partially smoked cannabis cigarette.

Subsequent police searches at the couple's residence led to the discovery of an additional 105 grams of cannabis, another cannabis cigarette, precision scales, and two more mobile phones. Both suspects were taken into custody following the discovery of the illicit materials in their possession.

The suspects were scheduled to appear before the Nicosia District Court on Tuesday, October 6, to face potential remand proceedings. The YKAN continues its investigation into the case, evaluating the evidence gathered from both the vehicle and the residence to determine the full extent of the suspects' involvement.
