Cyprus construction sector reports significant growth in 2026
Cyprus' construction sector experienced robust expansion during the first half of 2026, with 751 building permits issued in June alone, marking an 18.3 per cent increase compared to the same period in 2025. Between January and June, the total number of permits rose to 4,401, a 29.5 per cent increase year-on-year. The combined value of these permits reached €2.57 billion, a 48.2 per cent jump from the previous year, while the planned number of residential units surged by 67.8 per cent to 11,100.
Separately, the Famagusta District Local Government Organisation (EOA) reported a significant surge in efficiency, with building applications for the first nine months of 2026 already exceeding the total volume for all of 2025 by 40.1 per cent. By the end of September 2026, the EOA had processed 646 applications, compared to 461 in the entirety of 2025. September proved to be a record-breaking month, with the licensing directorate completing 299 applications, the highest monthly figure since the inception of the organization. This growth is attributed to improved administrative handling of development and construction applications, signaling continued momentum in the regional property development sector.
