Russian ambassador highlights strengthening ties with Cyprus
In early October 2026, the Russian Ambassador to Nicosia, Murat Zyazikov, stated that cooperation between Russia and Cyprus is continuously strengthening, particularly within the spheres of culture, education, and social affairs. Speaking to the Russian news agency TASS, the ambassador noted that the autumn period has been marked by a significant increase in bilateral activities involving the Russian community residing in Cyprus.
Key events highlighted by Ambassador Zyazikov include the successful conduct of the Russian State Duma elections in September 2026 and the 'Russian-Cypriot Film Days' festival. The latter marked the first collaborative cinematic event of this scale in many years. The ambassador specifically expressed his gratitude to both central and local Cypriot authorities, as well as law enforcement agencies, for ensuring security and facilitating the smooth operation of these electoral and cultural processes.
This cooperation follows a series of bilateral engagements, including the participation of the Russian diaspora in the March 2024 presidential elections. The ambassador emphasized that these initiatives reflect deep-rooted connections between the two nations, highlighting a period of sustained political and social interaction that has been supported by the Cypriot state.
