President Christodoulides and Tufan Erhurman to meet for talks on October 13
President Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Tufan Erhurman are scheduled to hold a meeting on Tuesday, October 13, at 3:30 p.m. in Nicosia. The meeting will be held under the auspices of the United Nations, with the primary objective of achieving substantive progress toward the resumption of formal negotiations within the agreed framework. The President has expressed a willingness to focus on the core issues, including 19 proposals previously submitted to the Turkish Cypriot side, which remain unaddressed.
This meeting follows a period of diplomatic tension following the UN General Assembly in New York, where efforts to arrange a tripartite meeting did not succeed. UN personal envoy Maria Angela Holguin has warned that the window of opportunity for dialogue is gradually closing due to regional instability in the Middle East and the Eastern Mediterranean. Government spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed the meeting details and emphasized that UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres remains personally committed to the process. As part of preparations, President Christodoulides is briefing political party leaders on current developments to maintain internal political alignment ahead of the talks.
