Cyprus Choreography Platform undergoes major restructuring
The Cyprus Choreography Platform, a fixture in the local cultural scene for 25 consecutive years, will not take place this November as originally expected. Instead, the 26th edition has been rescheduled for February 5-7, 2027, at the Rialto Theatre in Limassol.
The Deputy Ministry of Culture announced a significant shift in the event's philosophy, moving away from its traditional format to become a competitive showcase. This change aims to facilitate cultural diplomacy by selecting works for future presentation in major European cultural hubs, specifically Athens, Berlin, and London. Deputy Minister Clea Papaellina stated that this initiative represents a new chapter of extroversion for the institution.
Applications for the 2027 event open on October 12 and close on November 2, 2026. This timeline leaves creators with approximately three months to prepare their new submissions. Historically, the event has maintained its annual continuity even through the 2020 pandemic, making this delay and restructuring a notable departure from its established tradition. The selection committee will evaluate the works to determine which productions will be granted opportunities for international tours, shifting the platform's focus toward exporting Cypriot contemporary dance to foreign stages.
