Cypriot basketball teams kick off their European season campaigns

Three Cypriot basketball clubs began their 2026-2027 European campaigns this week. On October 6, 2026, TRIA EKA AEL BC secured an away victory against Bulgarian side Spartak Pleven with a score of 79-61 in their European North Basketball League (ENBL) opener. AEL dominated the match from the beginning, leading 22-9 after the first quarter and 41-24 at halftime, relying on strong defensive discipline to maintain a double-digit lead throughout the game.

Following AEL's success, Petrolina AEK and Keravnos Strovolou are scheduled to play their first matches in the FIBA Europe Cup on October 7, 2026, at 19:00. Petrolina AEK will host German team Fitness First Würzburg Baskets at the Kition athletic center, while Keravnos Strovolou faces Estonian side BC Pärnu at the Costas Papaellinas arena. Keravnos enters the season with a revamped roster featuring new additions like Shamar Givance, Trevon Allen, Tyrn Flowers, and Nate Grimes, guided by coach Vassilis Kounas.

Both upcoming FIBA Europe Cup matches will be broadcast live via Cytavision. AEL’s ENBL schedule continues throughout the fall, with their next match against Fyllingen Lions set for October 21.
