Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus marks the opening of the new judicial year
On October 6, 2026, the Supreme Constitutional Court of Cyprus held the inaugural ceremony for the new judicial year in Nicosia. The event highlighted the court's role as a cornerstone of the rule of law within the Cypriot state.
During the proceedings, the President of the Supreme Constitutional Court, Antonis Liatsos, emphasized that the court consistently acts as a check on executive power, ensuring that state authorities operate within defined constitutional boundaries. Foteini Tsiridou, President of the Parliamentary Committee on Legal Affairs, Justice and Public Order and a member of the DISY party, also participated in the event. She pledged the support of the House of Representatives for ongoing efforts to modernize and improve the legislative and institutional framework of the Cypriot judicial system. The ceremony underscored a commitment to institutional cooperation between the legislative and judicial branches of government to ensure the continued protection of citizens' rights.
