Ministry of Justice discusses new prison facility in Agios Sozomenos

On October 6, 2026, the Minister of Justice and Public Order held a meeting with the mayors and deputy mayors of the South Nicosia-Idalio and Latsia-Geri municipalities to discuss the planning of a new correctional facility. The proposed site for the complex is located in the area of Agios Sozomenos, where a specific state-owned plot has been selected for preliminary assessment.

During the meeting, the authorities exchanged views and recorded the positions and concerns of the local representatives. The Ministry stated that a final decision regarding the construction will only be made after the completion of a Master Plan and the necessary technical, environmental, and other studies. Officials emphasized that this site selection is currently in the evaluation and planning phase.

Authorities have committed to maintaining an ongoing dialogue with local stakeholders throughout every stage of the design process. The Master Plan will be presented to the local authorities for further consultation once it is completed. Future developments depend on these upcoming studies and the feedback gathered during the consultative process.
