Fire contained near Marathounta in Paphos
On October 6, 2026, a wildfire broke out south of the Marathounta community in the Paphos district, prompting an immediate response from local authorities. The fire was successfully brought under control by fire crews following a coordinated operation.
The blaze scorched an area of approximately six decares, consisting of wild vegetation, dry grass, and several trees located within a riverbed. To extinguish the flames, the Fire Service deployed three fully crewed vehicles from stations in the city and district of Paphos, while the Department of Forests contributed an additional two vehicles to the suppression effort. According to Fire Service spokesperson Andreas Kettis, the situation has been stabilized.
While the immediate threat has been neutralized, the causes of the fire are currently under investigation. The Fire Service is working in close cooperation with the Police to determine the factors that led to the incident.
