ASOS users report security breach notification
On October 6, 2026, numerous ASOS users received push notifications on their mobile devices claiming that the company had suffered a cyberattack. The hackers, who sent these messages directly through the ASOS application, asserted they had gained full access to the company's Snowflake environment, a cloud platform used for data storage, processing, and analytics, and threatened to leak internal data if their demands were not met. The attackers specifically addressed their message to the ASOS Data Protection Officer (DPO) and the IT department.
Following the notifications, Downdetector reported that nearly 500 users experienced issues accessing the ASOS website shortly before 10:00 local time. Despite the reported technical difficulties, the platform's website and application appeared to be functioning normally by 09:41. While the reports of the breach circulated widely, ASOS has not yet officially confirmed the cyberattack. The incident has reportedly placed significant pressure on the company's stock value. The Snowflake environment allegedly compromised also hosts the Simon AI system, which the company utilizes for its digital operations. As of now, the company has provided no further official updates on the investigation or the nature of the data exposure.
