Identification of victims in the Kyrenia shipwreck tragedy
Recovery and identification efforts continue following the shipwreck that occurred on August 30 off the coast of Kyrenia. Authorities in the occupied territories have confirmed that two bodies discovered over the weekend belong to Mahmut Demir and Ozgur Gunil. Further analysis resulted in the identification of a body found on Monday as Orhan Bekret, and the recovery of a third body on Wednesday, which is currently undergoing identification testing.
Following these developments, the official death toll from the maritime tragedy has risen to 26 people. The number of missing individuals has been reduced to two, among whom remains Mustafa Demir, the elder brother of the previously identified victim Mahmut Demir. Officials are continuing the search and identification operations for the remaining missing persons.
