Escalation of missile and drone strikes across Ukraine
Between October 7 and October 10, 2026, Russia launched a wave of massive air attacks across Ukraine, utilizing over 70 missiles—including ballistic variants—and dozens of drones targeting 12 regions. On October 7, a major strike resulted in at least 28 deaths and 118 injuries, including children, with significant damage to residential areas and energy infrastructure. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the campaign as a deliberate act of terror.
Following the initial massive strikes, violence continued throughout the week. On October 8, a Russian attack on a road in Kramatorsk killed 12 people and injured 14, while separate strikes in Kyiv resulted in three deaths. On October 10, officials reported seven fatalities in the Zaporizhzhia region following strikes by guided bombs. In response, Ukrainian forces reportedly conducted drone operations against the Russian border region of Belgorod, where authorities claimed two deaths, and Moscow-appointed officials in Luhansk reported four civilian deaths from alleged Ukrainian attacks.
The strikes have caused widespread power outages as Ukraine prepares for winter. Authorities in both nations continue to report ongoing casualties while emergency services carry out rescue operations at sites of destroyed residential buildings. The situation remains highly volatile with no signs of de-escalation.
