Russia launches waves of deadly aerial strikes across Ukraine
Between October 7 and October 10, 2026, Russia launched a series of major aerial offensives across Ukraine, targeting civilian infrastructure and residential areas in 12 regions. The campaign involved the use of over 70 missiles, including ballistic weaponry and glide bombs, as well as dozens of drones. Significant attacks were reported in Kyiv, the northern city of Priluki, the eastern city of Kramatorsk, and Zaporizhzhia, resulting in dozens of deaths and over 100 injuries. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strikes, particularly targeting energy facilities as winter approaches.
On October 10, a strike on residential buildings in Zaporizhzhia killed at least 17 people and injured 18 others. Earlier, on October 8, a bomb hit a street in Kramatorsk, killing at least 12 people. President Zelenskyy linked the recent intensification of attacks to the lifting of U.S. sanctions on Russian diesel under a reported agreement between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, characterizing the strikes as a retaliatory gesture. Ukrainian authorities continue search and rescue operations, while local energy providers, including DTEK, have implemented power supply restrictions. The situation remains volatile as the war enters its fifth year, with both sides reporting further military activity in border regions.
